Ingredients

  • 1 (10 1/2 oz) can Campbell's French onion soup
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1–3 tsp Worcestershire sauce, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/4 cup water

Method

  1. Mix 1/3 cup of the onion soup with ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Shape mixture into six oval patties.
  3. Heat a skillet to medium-high and brown patties until nicely crusted. Drain excess fat.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk remaining onion soup with flour until smooth.
  5. Stir in ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder to the sauce.
  6. Pour sauce over patties in the skillet. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve hot, ideally with creamy mashed potatoes or your favorite sides.
